Hip Arthritis
Anatomy :
The hip joint is the largest weight-bearing joint in the human body. It is a ball and socket joint formed by top end of thigh bone ( femur ) and pelvic bone ( acetabulum ).
A smooth cushion of articular cartilage covers the end of both these bones. The thick muscles of the buttock at the back, and the muscles of the thigh at the front surround the hip.
Healthy articular cartilage absorbs stress and allows the bones to glide across each other smoothly, allowing pain free movement and activities.
The ligaments and strong muscles surrounding the hip give the hip power and stability.
Treatment Options :
Various treatment options are available for the management of arthritis depending on severity. Your doctor may recommend one or more treatments for better outcomes.
Medications – Pain relief medications, anti inflammatories
Physiotherapy – strengthening and stability exercises
Occupational therapy – Use of walking aid / stick
Hip Injection
Surgical treatment – Total Hip Replacement
